The blog post Hispanic-Latinx Students in HS CS: Little Gaps Everywhere introduced several metrics that illuminated how well states encouraged and supported Hispanic-Latinx high school students taking CS courses in 2021. These metrics were reVISIONed using Tableau in the post Hispanic-Latinx/White Relative Strength CS Education Metrics Dashboards 2021. Data from these posts showed significant gaps throughout the CAPE (Capacity – Access – Participation – Experience) pyramid for Hispanic-Latinx high school students compared to their White counterparts.
This post provides an update to these Hispanic-Latinx/White relative strength statistics with data from 2022. All of these statistics are based on data provided in the 2022 State of CS Education report published by Code.org, CSTA, and the ECEP Alliance and data on the 2022 AP CS exams from Barbara Ericson’s Computing for Everyone blog. Note that 2022 state-specific dashboards published in early 2023 used AP data from 2021. However, as AP data for 2021-22 became available in April 2023, future posts on 2022 results will use this cleaner and better synchronized dataset instead.
